FAQ
Why should I have my novel edited?
A good premise and cover will put your book in readers' hands. A good story will get them coming back for more. Between these two points, however, is the technical quality of the writing. Some readers will excuse a missed comma here or there, but many, if not most, will put a book down if there are too many errors in grammar, syntax, word usage, etc. You could have written the most beautiful story in the world, wrapped in the most eye-catching cover. Don't let it go to waste because you don't know what a dangling modifier is.
Can't i just edit myself?
Sure. However, you'd be doing yourself and your novel a huge disservice. Good editing requires time, training, and education. The English language is complicated and nuanced, admittedly more than it needs to be. The other issue in editing your own work is bias. You've just spent an untold amount of time writing your novel, as well as rewriting, changing, thinking about, etc. Being that close to the work makes it nearly impossible to edit effectively. Obvious errors will be glossed over because, after all, you know what you meant to say. I'm an author, too, and I don't formally edit my own work.
Why does it cost so much?
I totally understand where you're coming from. Editing is expensive. This is largely due to the factors described in the previous question. Editing takes a lot of time and expertise. That being said, my prices are much, much lower than those of other certified editors. In fact, I should be charging two to three times as much.
